How did ORP begin?

The Oakhurst Recovery Program began as a men's night shelter staffed by volunteers from an intentional community known as Hospitality House.  The program later changed its mission to helping homeless men in need of addiction recovery services.

In 1991, the program officially began operating as a joint project of Café 458 and Oakhurst Baptist Church.  Then, in July of 1996, all components were moved to Oakhurst Baptist Church and became known as the Oakhurst Recovery Program.

ORP incorporated in January 1997 as a fully independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with its own Board of Directors.  That same year, Oakhurst Baptist Church, with support from community and local government, bought and renovated a house that continues to serve as ORP’s home.  Oakhurst Baptist Church continues to be a strong financial supporter of ORP as well as a major source of volunteers.
