What is ORP?

Picture
The Oakhurst Recovery Program (ORP) is a long-term residential treatment program for homeless men with chemical dependency.  The men who complete our program not only graduate clean and sober but also with stable housing and employment.  ORP restores the lives of its residents by treating the underlying problem of chemical dependency, not just the legal, vocational, emotional, intellectual and spiritual consequences of addiction.

The program succeeds, in part, because of our ability to provide a supportive community to our residents. We practice and teach community with a clear understanding of both addiction and homelessness.  The Board of Directors includes formally homeless individuals, graduates of our program, and men and women with many decades of collective recovery.

ORP also succeeds because of our ability to rely upon a supportive community.  The program receives unparalleled support from Oakhurst Baptist Church as well as financial support from grants, private foundations, and hundreds of individual donors.

Volunteers, too, are indispensable to the success of the Oakhurst Recovery Program.  Every year, more than 60 volunteers donate over 3,000 hours of service to the program.  Volunteers cook dinner for our residents, lead groups and workshops, and assist residents in obtaining permanent employment and housing as they progress through the program.
